In much of Latin America, there is a veil of ignorance that is caused by some religious beliefs, which undermine individual thinking and turn the masses into flocks. This negatively affects their ability to reason, leaving introspection and personal development aside from superficial issues. Then, it is necessary to strengthen the reflexive aspect, which can be found in Eastern philosophy and its teachings.

Western countries often consider within the scope of Eastern philosophy all those religious doctrines that appeared in the territories of South Asia and East Asia. However, if we take Buddhism as an example, many followers can be found who deny that it is exclusively a “religion”, since it is quite far from the dogmatic concepts that characterize Christianity and other Western religions.

Despite this incompatibility, there are people who have managed to integrate certain aspects of Buddhism, Mohism, Taoism, and other “religious philosophies” into their lives. This is possible because the religions of the East are structured based on a series of philosophical foundations, which facilitate the development of critical judgment.

To better understand the importance of Eastern philosophy today, it is extremely useful to analyze Buddhism, which originated from the teachings taught by Siddharta Gautama, known throughout the world as Buddha. According to this doctrine, the existence of a God; as seen in the West is somewhat irrelevant.

Several Buddhist schools can be found that interpret their sacred texts without including the word “God”, nor do they attribute the proper features of Abrahamic religions; say omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence. Instead, the term is used to refer to nothing, which is perceived as the fullness of emptiness. But it is also understood as the supreme happiness that can only be achieved through the state of absolute liberation, known as “nirvana.”

In conclusion, the study of Eastern philosophy can help people at different levels. It allows you to discover a great variety of spiritual traditions and practices, regardless of beliefs that are based on guilt and alleged redemption after death. They also contain a very valuable message for today’s society, which is summed up in that the happiness of each person depends only on themselves and their decisions. When this is clear, it is possible to move away from mass thinking and give greater importance to reflection. Something that will inevitably have a positive effect on society and its coexistence in harmony.
